ISO 39001 Certification. Road traffic safety management certification
Road traffic safety is a very delicate issue, with the estimated number of fatalities due to road accidents estimated to be around 1.3 million every year. That means every 30 second someone dies in a car crash. A further 50 million people suffer injuries due to road traffic accidents every year. More than that, recent studies show that road traffic accidents are one of the leading causes of death for your people (age 15 to 24).
Without a proper intervention those figures will grow in the next years.
A first response came in 2011 when the United Nations adopted Resolution A/RES/64/255 declaring the decade 2011-2020 as the Decade of action for road safety.
In 2012, ISO published the standard ISO 39001. to serve as a practical tool for governments, vehicle fleet operators and all organisations worldwide who want to reduce death and serious injury due to road accidents.
ISO 39001 has been developed with the support of experts from 40 countries and 16 liaison organisations, including the World Health Organisation, the World Bank, and the International Road Federation. This standard defines the requirements for a road traffic management system.
The requirements of ISO 39001 include the development of a road traffic policy, establishing and monitoring road traffic objectives and performance factors, specific requirements for safety aspects including speed, vehicle condition or driver awareness, preparedness for emergency situations as well as investigation of road traffic incidents and implementation of corrective actions.
